A lil bit on "Gays in the Military"

This is actually a kneejerk reaction post about a comment Spc. Chamiracle Speight (USArmy) made in the Fayetteville Observer on the subject.

See, Obama has called to "end the ban on homosexuals in the military" which I see as a good move (though there will undoubtedly be some ridiculous backlash.) Sgt. McCarty says that he knows some gays who get their job done just fine and shouldn't have to lie about their orientation. I agree, anyone who outs themselves to their unit is asking for what they get. Do they deserve backlash, no. Will they get it if the dumb homophobic hick down the hall learns there's "one dem fags" livin two doors down? Probably... which is why allowing gays in the military probably won't make much of a stir in the Gay Community itself. These are people, and they're not stupid. They've already told the people it's safe to tell, and even if "allowed" to be where they already are, aren't going to go waving rainbow banners around Fort Bragg, North Cackalacky asking for some stereotypical slackjacked homegrown private to beat him up cause he "looked at him funny."

SO... Spc Dummy thinks that 'repealing the ban could open the floodgates for unprofessional soldiers more interested in finding a boyfriend than in their duties. I don't think they'll be focused on the mission." HERE'S the best dipshitting part: Spc Speight is a FEMALE. Let's reuse her comment in a different situation, let's say, allowing FEMALES in the Military.
"Repealing the ban could opent he floodgates for unprofessional soldiers more interested in finding a boyfriend than in their duties." Gee willerkers Batman, that sounds EXACTLY THE SAME! Spc, did YOU join the military to nail male soldiers? I'll withhold the slanderous "probably" and just go with "No? Then how about not assuming everyone else who likes staring at Gerard Butler's butt, and joined the military, did either." Baffling how she, a woman... could not see the connection in what she was saying.

First off, kicking people out of the military for their sexual orientation is stupid. It doesn't affect their job, and they have the same ignorance rate as straight soldiers. The article quotes that 13,000 have been kicked out since Clinton started the "Don't Ask Don't Tell" in 1993. Let me tell you though: Most of em don't get kicked out. They're generally tolerated by all but the severely homophobic. I know a retired First Sgt who told me about having to deal with a soldier of his when the soldier's boyfriend came into his office to ask for help breaking up with him (guess the soldier didn't want to let him go.) The idea that if you get 'Outted' it's an immediate discharge is a figment. No one wants to lose good soldiers over what they like to do with their wee-wee in their offtime (unless it's illegal of course.)

SO. That's really all I had to say. Some female makin a stupid comment, and I felt the need to share her idiocy with more than just the Fort Bragg, Fayetteville, Cackalacky lackies.

If I ran the world....

Been makin a few 'statements' lately. Figure I'll combine them, since I DO actually feel strongly about them.

FB Fan Page:Making Drug Tests required to Get Welfare
Ive seen both sides of the Welfare Coin, being on it a chunk of my life (School Lunch cards, food stamps, State medical.. You've also never known Christmas til a van backs up to your home to give you a Ham and a set of clothes for each of the kids.) At the same time the people who pump out kid after kid, barely work if... they work at all, drink, buy scratch-offs, and whine about how the government should pay them more cause they had another kid... those people make me want to punch them in the mouth. Assistance is great, but it's a stopgap, not an Allowance. You should WANT to get off Assistance. Your goal as a parent, as a human being with an ounce of pride, should be to be able to support your family on your own.

Get assistance is you need it. It's not shameful. But don't use it as a crutch.
I'm all for Drug Tests. And Liver Enzyme Tests, and Nicotine tests. If you can't afford Milk, you can't afford Beer and Cigarettes.

Petition to Close the Loophole allowing REAL fur in "Faux" Fur products!!

Janna A. Kepley is against the Loophole allowing REAL fur in "Faux" Fur products! (They even use Domestic Dogs!!!

An HSUS investigation found domestic dog, wolf, or raccoon dog fur on 96 percent of a nationwide sample of fur-trimmed jackets purchased from well-known retailers and designers. The labels read "faux fur" or "raccoon" — if they bothered identifying the fur at all! Half of fur-containing garments come from China, where raccoon dogs as well as domestic dogs and cats are routinely killed for their fur.

A loophole in the Fur Products Labeling Act means that a vast quantity of clothing made with less than $150 worth of real fur goes unlabeled in the U.S. This is bad news for consumers and animals alike — without proper labeling, it is nearly impossible for a person to tell the difference between a product containing real fur or faux fur.

Petition for reauthorization of the Child Nutrition Act

No really. At my HS the main diet was a slice of Sardella's greasy pizza and Soda. You had to pay extra to eat from the salad bar.. you know.. where the vegetables were?
""We believe that federally funded nutrition programs should provide all
children with the healthy food they deserve. This includes low fat and
safe dai...ry, fresh fruits and vegetables, and whole grains. Schools
should be soda and junk-food-free zones and serve food that complements
and furthers parents' efforts to feed their children healthfully.""

Sign a Petition to Help Animals. But PLEASE.. Read them first, don't sign willy nilly. Even those with a good heart get over the top. There's one to ban Greyhound racing, and one to "combat global warming". So use your head, only sign the ones that may mean something to you, the rest is just a click :) SUPER easy if you use Google Toolbar's "Fill in"

Pennsic Pilgrimage: By MiniGoal

Finally sat down with the God-Awful maps to plot the mini goals. I also discovered that I wasn't "walking" to Pennsic by the old route, I was "driving" lol. I'd prefer not to take a carriage 60miles out of the way, so I asked Google to "walk" it for me. 499 miles now. Not bad, a straight line, still following roads, just smaller ones. A bit more Period I think. Had to use several different websites to get all the Groups in the path figured out, about 4 hours actually. O_O
This also changes the Steps I need to get there from 1,441,440, to 1,317,360 so I had to alter my "bonuses" now that it's technically easier :P

Starting in Canton Attilium, Barony Windmaster's Hill, Kindgom Atlantia
6mi to Canton Nimenfeld, Barony Windmaster's Hill, Kindgom Atlantia

Its like a Rollercoaster... +Pennsic Pilgrimage!

(Reposted from my SparkPeople.com blog)

So on the 17th at work I logged 6820 Steps (around a barricade) for 2.55. Grain of salt included. I did this by calculating how many steps it took me to get around said barricade (28avg {28, 27, 39}) and then counted how many times I walked around it. I gifted myself 1 rotation each time I had to process a car (I walk around the car, like its a barricade.) I did not get extra steps for big vehicles, but I didn't take away for smaller vehicles either. It was a neat mind numbing way to focus on walking. I didn't know I'd gone that far (I was hoping to make 2640 steps for my Mile!) until I calced it on a break I had. I have a good pedometer on the way (I lost the cheapy lil one I had last year.) >

I also worked out the points system for my Pilgrimage to Pennsic :D I'm WAY behind already. Hubby's new schedule is kind of causing us to be terrible night owls (been up til 4am these last two nights) which is TERRIBLE for wanting to get up and work out. Though, he's at the gym now; I need to eat and have my morning digestion uninterrupted lol. I'll do a bit later since I'll have the car today. I'll post how Pennsic works at the end of the blog ^_^

Hubby and I have been spatting lately. Kinda bad like. Not to blame things but I've noticed my will for self control is pretty crappy when that occurs. I'm thinking of throwing out all the little things I can grab that are left over from before we slammed into healthy eating in January (the bag of chips in the cupboard.) I can't throw away the popcorn... I ate it all yesterday. omg yes, I ate the rest of the entire bag O_O ...and it was a big bag too. Just, depressed lately. Can't seem to shake it as long as we're in this funky fighting mode. I pigged out yesterday. It was our scheduled Cheat Day anyway, so we went to breakfast at Ihop and I had a 1400 cal stuffed french toast combo (omg so good). But jacked up the rest of the day when I spent the rest of the day playing video games instead of working or studying, forgot to eat lunch, ate dinner too soon, and then made cheese-stuffed shells in alfredo around 2am cause I was hungry again (aaaand we stayed up til 4am). Dear... lord. 3700 cals yesterday. /faints.

Ok, the Pennsic Pilgrimage.

I have a problem with short term goals. I set great longterm goals, but then don't work to achieve them. (Bit me in the butt the other day . Nothing like already being angry that you're fightin with you're hubby, than to discover your ex's fiance, who reminds you terribly too much of you, just ran YOUR 13.1 half marathon. Before you did. Omg... I thought (not seriously) about killing myself. Or at least mope about it all day.) ANYWAY.
It's 546 miles between me and Pennsic. I walk a mile in 2640 steps (based on my avg.female 2" stride.) It's 1,441,440 steps to get to Pennsic from my house :D
I'd have to walk 7354.29 steps a day, or 2.8mi a day to get there in 196 days (from Jan15, to July30 opening weekend).

Thinking that the average person works to make up their 2000 steps a day, I worked out a bonus system. Aside from wanting to workout I want to be fit and remember little things like to "drink 8oz of water a day" and "eat 5 fruits and veggies" etc. SO, being unlikely to walk 2.8miles a day I worked out a Bonus Step system.

Steps per Day: 2640.
Bonus steps (2970 total)
--Morning Vitamins: 330 steps.
--Afternoon Vitamins: 330 steps.
--8oz H2O: 660 steps.
--+4oz (for 12oz total!): 165 steps.
--5 Fruits & Veggies: 660 steps.
--Teeeeth! BFRT: 660 steps.
--President's Challenge: 165 steps.

2640+2970=5610, 2.125miles. This leaves me 1740steps short for the day, 12180steps short per week, equaling 4.725 MILES short per week. These miles can be made up by running, more walking, elliptical, or cardio bike (although I think the cardio bike miles might have to be cut in half. You can look at a cardio bike and go 5 miles on accident.)

As long as I do the things in my daily life that I need to remember to do, and workout/cardio 2-3x a week, I'll make Pennsic easy! If I forget things in the day, I'll need to work harder to make up for it. I don't "lose" if I don't get there on time, but it makes a neat way of getting there.

Now, the MINI GOALS! This is what will keep me going.
Along the path to Pennsic are all the Baronies, Shires, Cantons in between. A lady in my SCA Sparkers Team on Sparkpeople.com came up with the Walk to Pennsic thing as a way to get herself going. The part that really made it awesome was that she awards herself something for each Region she goes through :D Me being all about badges, I'm thinking a small (digital for now) Device of the group I trod through :D My first goal is Nimenfeld, Barony of Windmaster's Hill (the Barony I'm currently shipwrecked in.)

I still need to get a lil HTML up for it, I LOVE making little pages. I'm thinking, that because I love it I might need to make it part of the first mini goal. I'm a weeee bit behind. I don't have that pedometer yet so I'm lacking at least a mile a day. Throw in that I've been evil lazy the last two days and you have a disaster. It's all right, it's totally saveable :D

*The sweet lil bonus about this, is I might actually get to GO to Pennsic! My first Pennsic... We can't go to Estrella because of School.. I doubt we'll really get to go to Pennsic what with moving, finding jobs, and inserting ourselves in the schools in that area, but it's a nice dream to hold on to. :D

Potato chip BINGE!!!

(Repost from SparkBlog)
http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal.asp?id=WEYRCAT

So I kinda blew today. Ran around instead of eating lunch thinking I didn't have time and ended up with a handful of Lime Tostitos and a spoon in the Fat Free Sugar Free Chocolate pudding bowl :( Picked up the rhythm again at work (can't slip if you only bring the normal menu, right?) BZZZZZT! Coworker offered me some of his deliciously salty Ruffles chips. Declined. Then, just had one. Then about half hour later another one. By the end of the night I was pulling handfuls of the crunchy crumbs out of the bottom of the bag.

Ugh.. I really feel like there's truth in you Are what you Eat. By the time my shift was over I felt greasy all over, like I'd rubbed the stupid chips all over my face and skin (when of course I hadn't, heck I held them in a paper towel!) Ugh. Now, I'm hungry, and it's past dinnertime (waiting on the Army to give my husband back for the night) aaaaand I'm just barely under where all my stats are supposed to be, even with the binge.

So, I'm thinking, pop a frozen veggie in the microwave and suck up the lil hit to the carbs just so I can feel full. Maybe have some hot tea (Splenda-ized). I want to go hop on the elliptical to work off some of the ick, but it's so darned late and working outside in the cold just sucks the life out of you. It's all I can do to stay up for Hubby :(

Sigh. Well, off I go. Hurry up Uncle Sam, I's tired.

I hate main campus. (Edumacation)

Me (10:29): I hate main campus. 20m to shark parking; line just to PRINT schedule to get current sticker on my ID, to get INTO the bookstore. O.o

Me (10:39): Now to wait in the biiiiig line to register & pay for this class. Should DLed a book.

Hey you! With the ohssoCool media phone & tons of repetitive mp3s that play at half quality from your tiny speaker. Who told you everyone in line wanted to listen to LadyGaGa singing "Ya Ya Rum Bum Da Da!" or some bust em up rap crap for 10minutes? Ever heard of EarPhones? Latest and Greatest invention for the audiophile with bad taste. Try some.

Me (10:54): So. Can't pay where I added the class. Back to the First line to use the schedule machine (its just the website in a kiosk) so I can pay my 50$ THEN get sticker. (She tried to send me to another building. Why isn't the cashier in the admin building?)

Me (11:06): So agitated. Apparently you CANT pay at the stupid kiosk, though the attendant said you could. Now I have to go hunt down some stupid building. (That thankfully had no line, paid quickly, AND she put my spring sticker on there. Only smooth thing all day.)

Are you freakin kidding? I have to check my PURSE into BAGGAGE CLAIM so I don't steal a textbook I couldnt cram in there if I busted the seams. Tho it contains a water bottle & kiwi.

So. Stats Bundle is 143$. Could buy Stats online (60$) & code seperate @bookstore... for 80$. Are u freakin kidding? Nut I could get also for 60 (without shipping), In store for 87. So I've bought both books new. Sigh. 243.43. I'm going home now.

I really despise being forced into GenPop. Most people are loud, obnoxious, inconsiderate, and, they smell and dress abhorrently. Did I mention they walk slow? They kind of dawdle, right in the hallway. Or stop suddenly in the middle. Or! Start to walk backwards on you while "givin a shoutout" to someone across the lobby. I hate thee..

091230 GYM?! More like... RUN?!

2mi avg 6.2 hr? *1
Lat pulldown 40 3/8
Hammer curls 5lb 3/8
low back ext 2/8 *2
dips (65assist) 2/8 1/8neg *3

*1 I actually ran. Hubby told me I could do 2, when I was goin to "try 1". No HR though, because the machine wouldn't read it. Screw the GPS at 13.1, I want the HR monitor. Silly, cause you use it to keep your cardio on point. I just want it cause its another gadget :D

*2 Just did 2 low back extensions. I think the lat pulldowns were enough.

*3 I hate dips. Stopped doing them for the longest time. Had to do negatives for the last set, and almost wussed out on that!
